Developers are eyeing the site of a former Panera on Hilton Head for a new indoor mini golf concept.
Located at 1010 and 1012 William Hilton Parkway, the new entertainment facility would include an 18-hole mini golf course, golf simulator bays, and a food and beverage area.
Architect Judd Carstens of Witmer Jones Keefer submitted a brief narrative overviewing the project to the Town of Hilton Head Island Community Development Department.
In the narrative, Carstens explained that the developers seek to construct a new 20,000 square foot mini golf facility on a vacant lot near Dunnagans Alley. The adjacent Panera building will be connected to the new facility, and renovated to accommodate the food and beverage needs of the project.
Except for the Panera, the existing buildings at 1012 William Hilton Parkway will remain untouched, according to the project narrative. One of those buildings houses Casablanca Mediterranean Grill.
Carstens wrote that the work will be developed by an “on-island hospitality business,” but did not mention any companies by name.
A pre-application meeting for the project will occur Thursday at 1:30 p.m. The meeting will be open to the public.
A pre-application meeting is an optional first step developers can take before submitting a full application. During the meeting, town staff reviews the proposal and offers feedback and suggestions in an informal setting.
In order to be approved, the project will need to be vetted by town staff and receive approval from the Design Review Board.
