Catherine O’Hara has died at age 71. The actress is beloved for her work in the Christopher Guest parodies Waiting for Guffman and Best in Show, as well as iconic films like Home Alone and Beetlejuice. For the last decade, however, O’Hara has become synonymous with Moira Rose, the (formerly) wealthy ex-soap star forced to relocate to a small town in the sitcom Schitt’s Creek, created by Eugene and Dan Levy-created.
From her zany fashion sense to her esoteric vocabulary words — not to mention her unique pronunciation of “bébé” — the socialite Moira quickly became one of the show’s most memorable and memeable characters. The theatrical matriarch of the Rose family could certainly be cutting, but when she wasn’t declaring others a “bashful clam” or “disgruntled pelican,” she was dropping surprisingly profound observations. Her weirdly wise takes on life were one of the many things that made the cheese-folding icon so special.
Here are some of Moira’s best quotes.

“Who knows what will befall us tomorrow? You could be hit by a Mack truck or bopped on the head by a tiny piece of space debris.”
“You are blind to reality, and for that, I am most proud.”
“Gossip is the devil’s telephone. Best to just hang up.”
“Our lives are like little bébé crows, carried upon a curious wind. And all we can wish, for our families, for those we love, is that that wind will eventually place us on solid ground. And I believe it’s done just that for my family here. In this little town. In the middle of nowhere.”

“Take a thousand naked pictures of yourself now. You may currently think, ‘Oh, I’m too spooky’ or, ‘Nobody wants to see these tiny boobies.’ But believe me, one day you will look at those photos, with much kinder eyes and say, ‘Dear God, I was a beautiful thing!’”
“Worry is but undernourished enthusiasm.”
“If airplane safety videos have taught me anything, David, it’s that a mother puts her own mask on first.”

“Social media is an amusement park for clinical narcissists.”
“Turtles do not pets make. The poor things are riddled with a myriad of diseases. You may as well tie a leash around a raw chicken cutlet.”
“You’ll soon learn that we aging mortals are blessed with weakening eyes and memories, so we don’t have to really see ourselves. If you love the number 19, you go be 19. And while you’re at it, bet on it.”
“What the hell is your secret, Stevie? You just stand your solid ground, refusing to be anything but you. I never thought I’d say this about anyone in this town, but you, you’re very, very cool.”
