Melbourne-based powerhouse singer Mia Wray has kicked off the year with a new single, “When We Were Young”.

The release follows a huge 2025 for Wray, with the release of her pivotal debut album hi, it’s nice to meet me. And with no signs of slowing down, she is currently on her on her biggest support tour to date, joining global star Ed Sheeran on his 17-date stadium run across Australia and New Zealand.

Following five dates across New Zealand, she will open the Australian leg of the tour in Perth this evening (January 30th), before heading to Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide.

“When We Were Young” is a nostalgic, synth-led pop belter reflecting on long lost friendships, and how people who were once so close to you can become strangers. It’s about growing apart, evolving and following your gut.

The track was written in LA with Jack Klenick, who has worked with the likes of grentperez and Laurel, and Alexandra Veltri, who has worked with Paris Hilton. It was produced and mixed by Scott Horscroft, whose credits include Empire of the Sun, Middle Kids, and DMA’S.

“’When We Were Young’ is kind of like my Peter Pan song. I have a hard time accepting that people grow up and move on and I just wish that everything could just stay the same forever,” Wray said of the single.

Wray is one of Australia’s most commanding new voices – powerful, soulful, and heartbreakingly direct. Last year’s debut album hi it’s nice to meet me earned an ARIA nomination for the Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist award and was shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize (AMP).

The album featured anthems like “Not Enough” and “What If” which drew praise from the likes of superstar Elton John. Her music has clocked well over 50 million streams total, and the new single hopes to mark the beginning of an authentic second chapter.

Mia Wray’s “When We Were Young” is out now.
