2026 is underway! Which future event are you looking forward to?

The College of Wooster will present a variety of arts events this spring open to the greater Wooster community that highlight the diverse talents of its students.

Events from the departments of music, theatre and dance, and the College of Wooster Art Museum (CWAM) will feature performances from music ensembles, theatre productions and art exhibits, according to a community announcement.

Exhibitions

  • The College of Wooster Art Museum (CWAM) recently opened “1970: Mirrored Pasts, Predictable Futures.” The exhibition invites viewers to reflect on the year 1970, a pivotal moment in art history. Curated by students, the works prompt viewers to consider how past tensions echo today. The exhibit will be on display until April. The museum is open 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, and 1-4 p.m. Saturday.
  • May 1: Senior Studio Art Group Show Celebration, 4 p.m., Ebert Art Center. Each studio major exhibits their Independent Study work in the MacKenzie Gallery. Students will offer gallery talks about their work as part of the annual Senior Research Symposium.

Music performances

  • Feb. 6: Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo Concert featuring saxophonist Pete Mills, 7:30 p.m., Gault Recital Hall. Mills joins the ensemble for an evening of jazz standards and new compositions. Admission is free.
  • Feb. 20 and Feb. 22: Wooster Symphony Orchestra Concert featuring the Escher String Quartet, 7:30 p.m. and 3 p.m., Gault Recital Hall. The program includes Edward Elgar’s “Introduction and Allegro for Strings, Op. 47,” Dvorák’s “Serenade for Strings” and Mendelssohn’s “Italian” Symphony. Tickets are required.
  • Feb. 27: Wooster Chorus Concert, 7:30 p.m., Gault Recital Hall. The ensemble, directed by Christin Sears, features students from all academic areas.
  • March 6: Wooster Contemporary Chamber Ensemble Concert, 7:30 p.m., Gault Recital Hall. The ensemble focuses on music by living composers.
  • March 8: Scot Symphonic Band & Wooster Pipe Band Concert, 3 p.m., McGaw Chapel. The band, directed by Jeffrey Gershman, showcases wind literature and contemporary works. The Pipe Band, directed by Palmer Shonk and Sean Lawry, promotes Scottish arts and culture.
  • March 8: Wooster Chorus Pre-Tour Concert, 7:30 p.m., Gault Recital Hall.
  • April 18: Wooster Concert Band & Wooster Singers Concert, 3 p.m., Gault Recital Hall. The Wooster Singers is a non-auditioned mixed voice ensemble conducted by Sears. The Concert Band includes students, staff, faculty and community members.
  • May 1: Wooster Symphony Orchestra Concert, 7:30 p.m., McGaw Chapel. The orchestra will perform Dmitri Shostakovich’s “Symphony No. 5 in D minor, Op. 47.” Senior violinists Noah Hankin and Jane Nolte will be featured in a performance of “Amitié for Two Violins and Orchestra” by Eugene Ysaye. The ensemble will also premiere “Pursuit for Symphony Orchestra” by Dylan Findley.
  • May 2: Wooster Contemporary Chamber Ensemble Concert, 7:30 p.m., Gault Recital Hall.
  • May 3: Scot Symphonic Band & Wooster Pipe Band Concert, 3 p.m., McGaw Chapel.
  • May 5: Jazz Ensemble Concert, 7 p.m., Scot Amphitheater. Chicago vocalist Abigail Riccards joins the ensemble to celebrate the end of spring classes. In case of rain, the concert will move to Gault Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m.
  • May 15: Commencement Concert, 3 p.m., McGaw Chapel. The performance will feature the Wooster Chorus.

Theatre and dance

  • Feb. 26-March 1: “The Importance of Being Earnest” by Oscar Wilde, 7:30 p.m., Freedlander Theatre. Directed by Shirley Huston-Findley, the play is a satirical comedy set in Victorian London. Performances take place at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 1. Tickets are required.
  • April 16-19: Spring Dance Concert, 7:30 p.m., Freedlander Theatre. Directed by Emily Baird, the concert features original choreography from the Wooster Dance Company. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 19. Tickets are available.
