THE RUNDOWN
After attending the Critics Choice Awards and Golden Globes, Ariana Grande is spending the evening out of the spotlight. ELLE understands she will not be at tonight’s Grammys ceremony. The star hasn’t posted on social media today and has not addressed her Grammys plans.
However, she and her Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo added to their Grammy collections tonight. They won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Defying Gravity,” which was announced during the Grammys preshow. It was Grande’s sole nomination this year.
The Eternal Sunshine singer skipped last year’s ceremony too, where she had three nominations. That year, she was nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (“The Boy Is Mine” with Brandy and Monica), Best Pop Vocal Album (Eternal Sunshine), and Best Dance Pop Recording (“Yes, And?”)
However, many believed she was snubbed as Eternal Sunshine was excluded from the show’s biggest categories: Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year.
When 2026 nominations were announced, fans expressed disappointment that Grande’s Eternal Sunshine: Brighter Days Ahead didn’t receive any nominations. Her “Brighter Days Ahead” had recently won Video of the Year, Best Pop Song, and Best Long Form Video at the MTV VMAs.
Grande is booked and busy, though: Focker In-Law comes out in November, she is starring in the 13th season of American Horror Story, her tour starts in June, and she’ll be performing alongside Jonathan Bailey in Sunday in the Park With George on West End in summer 2027.
