The censors at the Grammy Awards Sunday night got a little bit… messy.
When Lola Young excitedly took the stage to accept the award for Best Pop Solo Performance for her hit “Messy,” she dropped a few F-bombs, and the show missed one of them.
“I have no idea what to say because I didn’t have any speech prepared,” she said. “Obviously I don’t, it’s messy do you know what I mean? I don’t know what to say. Thank you so much.”
At this point she appeared to get censored briefly, before her audio cut back in just in time to hear her say, “F—ing, sorry, sorry sorry! My face… I’m very, very grateful for this. I love you everybody, everybody, everybody.”

The miss was particularly noticeable because of how sensitive the censoring was earlier in the show. To open the Grammys, Sabrina Carpenter performed her single “Manchild,” and was bleeped out numerous times, including when it appeared she was simply saying “eff” as opposed to the f-word.
Young’s hilarious gaffe capped off a triumphant night for the singer, who struggled with unspecified health issues earlier this year.
In September, the British singer-songwriter suffered an unknown medical emergency and collapsed onstage in the middle of performing at the All Things Go music festival in New York City. Later that night, she issued a statement on her Instagram Story confirming to fans that she was “doing okay now” after the incident, which required her to be carried offstage by medical personnel.

However, three days later, Young announced in a subsequent Instagram post that she would be cancelling all of her future performances and going “away for a while.” She added, “I really hope you’ll give me a second chance once I’ve had some time to work on myself and come back stronger.”
In December, she reconnected with her fans once more, thanking them for giving her the “time and space to gather myself and get my head in a better place.”
She continued, “I am hoping to gradually get back to performing and continuing pursuing my dreams.”
Ahead of the Grammys, Young performed at Spotify’s Best New Artist Party in Los Angeles on Thursday, USA Today reported. The star-studded event marked her first major performance since the incident.
“I haven’t performed since September, so this is a very, very special moment for me,” Young told the audience, per the outlet. “Thank you to everyone who makes performing feel like this.”
