But it appears that Epstein was privately collecting his own information about the former Duchess.
An email from August 20, 2009, showed Epstein being informed by a redacted name, saying that the “Fergie data collection remains slow”. The US financier asked the unidentified person to “keep on it”.
Elsewhere, an email from the same redacted address appears to be saying that “getting financials for Fergie is painful” describing the whole process as an “incredible mess”
The email said: “Getting financials for Fergie is painful. Incredible mess. I’m on it, but for sure completeness will always remain questionable.”
In another document, an email exchange between Epstein and a US lawyer and former NBA commissioner, David Stern, centres on Ms Ferguson.
The US lawyer sent Epstein a story by the Daily Mail regarding Fergie, with Epstein asking, “Who talks”?
Mr Stern replied: “No idea. She is terrified of Johnny. He must know some dirty stuff.”
Other emails appeared to show Fergie accusing Epstein of it being “crystal clear to me that you were only friends with me to get to Andrew”.
In an email exchange from September 21, 2011, she appeared to write: “Don’t know if you are still on this bbm but heard from The Duke that you have had a baby boy.
“Even though you never kept in touch, I still am here with love, friendship and congratulations on your baby boy. Sarah xx”
The email is then followed up with a message saying: “You have disappeared. I did not even know you were having a baby. It was soooo crystal clear to me that you were only friends with me to get to Andrew. And that really hurt me deeply. More than you will know.”
The former Duchess’s spokesman previously said she had expressed regret over her association with Epstein and “does not resile” from publicly condemning him.
She has not commented on the latest batch of emails.
