Last Friday night, Jan. 30, senior guard Skotti Beck scored her 1500th career point in South Prairie-Max’s game on the road against Dunseith High School. On Monday night, Feb. 2, Beck and the rest of the Royals returned to their home court to face off against the Nedrose Cardinals.
Beck has been a top scorer for the Royals this season, often reaching double digit point totals for the Royals during their games, and Monday night was no different.
Though the Royals had a slow start in their game against the Cardinals, they quickly found their footing. The Royals started out their game with an 0-6 deficit under the Cardinals, and the rest of the first quarter was slow. Despite their lackluster start, the Royals’ defense held strong, and the offense was still able to bring the score back to a winning position at 12-9.
In the second quarter, the Royals’ offense turned the pressure up. Senior Maycie Talbott and junior Rylee Routledge scored two three-pointers each, but senior Brianna Rose took the Royals over the top with 11 points in the second quarter alone. The Royals more than doubled their first quarter scoring, totaling 28 in the second eight minutes of the game.
Beck took charge in the third quarter, scoring 13 points with three made three-points and two two-pointers, bringing her total to 18 at that point in the game. With the rest of the team’s contributions, the Royals ended the third quarter with 28 additional points.
The Royals only scored 17 additional points in the fourth quarter, but their defense kept the Cardinals at bay through the entirety of the game, giving the Royals their 15 win in a row with a final score of 85-27.
Skotti Beck and Maycie Talbott topped the board in scoring for the Royals, earning 18 points each for the team.
With senior Brianna Rose’s 15 points made during the Royals’ game against the Cardinals, she is now only 52 points away from 1500 career points as well.
The Royals are next scheduled to take on Devils Lake High School at home once again on Tuesday, Feb. 3.
