Liverpool is launching a new grant scheme to bolster local grassroots music venues.

The new Grassroots Music Venues Support Programme offers a pilot grant of up to £3,000 and business advice to foster local talent and protect venues, in partnership with Music Venues Trust and backed by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The programme is aimed at venues with less than 300 capacity and new venues looking to build their reputation and community while highlighting local artists performing live, original music.

Awarded funds can go towards up to six nights of live music programming, and successful applicants will also get business support and access to workshops and mentoring.

Applications are open now until midday on 13th February, with outcome notifications expected by 27th February. Learn more about how to apply on the Liverpool City Council website.

The new programme ties into the tenth anniversary of Liverpool’s UNESCO City of Music status.

In 2025, Liverpool welcomed several new venues and music spaces including Suono, Melodic Distraction, SoundYard and Kapsule.

Last month, the UK treasury announced a U-turn on its 2025 budget and will allow grassroots venues a 15% relief discount on business rates.

A new report by Music Venues Trust found that more than half of the UK’s grassroots music venues made no profit in 2025.
