February is Black History Month, and South Florida’s rich cultural diversity makes it a great place to celebrate. Events include a Broward reggae festival and a photo exhibition celebrating Overtown’s history

Here’s a rundown of selected events in Miami-Dade and Broward counties:

Reggae Geneaology

Reggae stars including Mr. Vegas will perform and be honored in Plantation for this family-friendly event. Merchants and food vendors will be on hand for the celebration of reggae music and culture.

When: Saturday, Feb. 7, 4 p.m.-9 p.m.

Where: Plantation Volunteer Park, 12050 W. Sunrise Blvd.

Tickets: $10-$15 for children; $30-$40 for adults

Peter London Global Dance Company & Frost Studio Jazz Band

This musical celebration of Carnival rhythms at University of Miami’s Gusman Concert Hall features the Frost Studio Jazz Band and the Peter London Global Dance Company. The audience can expect the Coral Gables show to have complex choreography and energizing sounds.

When: Thursday, Feb. 5, 7:30 p.m.

Where: UM Gusman Concert Hall, 1314 Miller Dr, Coral Gables.

Book Signing: A Brief History of Black British Art with Rianna Jade Parker

Rianna Jade Parker will be at Pérez Art Museum Miami to discuss her book, “A Brief History of Black British Art,” about how Black artists have made a significant impact on the British art scene.

When: Thursday, Feb. 5, 5-6:30 p.m.

Where: PAMM, 1103 Biscayne Blvd., downtown Miami

Thursdays at PAMM: Weekend Warm Up with Pressure Point

Music is at the heart of Caribbean culture and this live music performance at Pérez Art Museum Miami will be a lively one. Miami-based musician Akia “Pressure Point” Dorsainvil will perform.

When: Thursday, Feb. 5, 8-10 p.m.

Where: PAMM, 1103 Biscayne Blvd., downtown Miami

Heritage Fest

The Adrienne Arsht Center will celebrate the African diaspora with its seventh annual Heritage Fest. The event will feature live performances, food vendors and family games. Later in the evening, the event will feature a Juke Joint party for people ages 18 and older.

An Evening With Samara Joy

Six-time Grammy winner Samara Joy takes the stage at the Adrienne Arsht Center to sing jazz music from icons including Sarah Vaughan. Joy is a Bronx native and released her album “Portrait” in 2024.

Sepia Vernacular: Overtown’s Photographic Journey, 1920–1950

This photo exhibition at The L.E. Thomas Building showcases how life in Overtown looked in the first half of the 20th century. The Black community was a cultural hotspot in Miami during the time and drew prominent visitors including activistMalcolm X and boxer Muhammad Ali.

When: Thursdays and Fridays, 2 p.m.-6 p.m.; Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Adrienne Arsht Gospel on the Road

This gospel music event at Florida City’s Loren Roberts Park (545 NW Sixth Ave.) is the latest installment of the Arsht Center’s mobile music program. Attendees will hear a live children’s choir and be encouraged to clap along and participate in the show.

When: Feb.21, 4 p.m.

Where: Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, 1300 Biscayne Blvd., Miami

South Beach Wine & Food Festival: The Cookout

The Cookout will take place at South Beach’s Eden Roc Miami Beach Resort It’s a Black-focused food event and part of the South Beach Wine & Food Festival. The event features all-inclusive food and drinks from top chefs including Wayne Sharpe of Jrk! Miami, and a performance from rapper Fat Joe.

When: Saturday, Feb. 21, 4-7 p.m.

Where: Eden Roc hotel, 4525 Collins Ave., Miami Beach

Tickets: $154

LATEniteLoops Jam Session

This jam session at South Beach’s Kill Your Idol bar celebrates Black music with live performances of hip-hop, R&B and other genres. Audience members are invited to listen, clap along, and even play along if they like.

When: Every Sunday night throughout February, 10 p.m. 1 a.m.

Where: 222 Espanola Way, Miami Beach
