The latest track from electronic artist 98 Poly, 3 Hearts From My Mouth, is taken from her upcoming EP.
A powerful new track from 98 Poly has just dropped, featuring a thematic cushion of uptempo melancholy. “3 Hearts From My Mouth” is a pulsating listen, coated in potent vocals and supported by rapper Princess XIXI. The track is taken from the artist’s forthcoming EP, ‘This room contains the world’.
What ‘3 Hearts From My Mouth‘ Sounds Like
Filled with drama and a haunting opener, 98 Poly fills the track with a tremendous silence and malaise, triggered by a harrowing experience the artist faced two years ago. The multidisciplinarian said:
“This track, but really the whole EP I’ve been working on, captures all the feelings pre, during and post a really harrowing and brutal experience in Summer 2024 that led to an emergency surgery; being faced with your own mortality, grief, love, disillusionment, resilience.”
Poly says the track is “the darkest and moodiest of the EP” and is “inspired by the grimness” of her affliction. The vocalist and producer found solace in literature, citing English writer Christina Rossetti for the motif in the song’s lyrics: “Where are the words?,” “Can you hold my head when the heart is leaving?,” “How do I carry this body diminished…?”
The trauma of 3 Hearts From My Mouth can be felt throughout its three-minute runtime, with a tense crescendo buoyed by soft vocals and plaintive introduction. Following its choral opening, it quickly steamrolls into uptempo bars courtesy of Princess XIXI. “It was all instinctive and honest” she says, “I hope that comes through in the final versions of the tracks.”
There’s a clear sense of artistry thanks to an allegro tempo carried by both vocalists, fitting for both the dancefloor and an reflective experience. “I wanted the track’s intro to really juxtapose this – mostly voice and piano, stripped and raw, as an ode to my first two instruments and to getting my voice back after a lot of time in the depths of disillusionment.”

‘This room contains the world’ is set to release on Thursday 5th March, with a release show coinciding at The Greyhound in Peckham.
