Having teased a new album via a pair of instrumental EPs, prog duo Crown Lands have announced their latest full-length. Apocalypse is out May 15 via InsideOut Music, and the 19-minute title track is streaming now.
Apocalypse is a concept album; while the instrumental Ritual embodied the planet during peacetime, the more destructive Apocalypse acts as a narrative prequel to 2023’s Fearless.
The duo recorded Apocalypse primarily in their own studio space, mostly self-producing but occasionally bringing in Nick Raskulinecz and David Bottrill for outside production help.
There are seven tracks in all — six of which are around four minutes each, followed by the epic-length title track. Drummer and vocalist Cody Bowles said in a statement, “With long-form songs, it always starts with the music. We built Apocalypse from instrumental sections, some older riffs, a lot of newly inspired ones, and mapped them out on a whiteboard, figuring out how one section could melt into the next.”
