Fox News is under fire after promoting an alternative Super Bowl halftime show hosted by conservative activist group Turning Point USA, with critics accusing the network of politicizing one of the most-watched entertainment events of the year. The backlash centers on the show’s origins, its lineup, and Fox’s recent on-air promotion of the event.
The Turning Point USA halftime show features Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett. The event was launched as a direct response to the announcement that Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny would headline the official Super Bowl halftime show. President Donald Trump publicly criticized the decision at the time, calling Bad Bunny a “terrible choice” and claiming he was “anti” the performance.
Amid the controversy, Lee Brice appeared on Fox News to discuss his decision to take part in the Turning Point USA halftime show. Brice addressed speculation that his involvement was motivated by opposition to Bad Bunny, pushing back on that interpretation.
“I don’t know much about him. I’ve heard he’s won a bunch of Grammys and he’s a great artist or whatever. But, you know, I didn’t get asked to play the other Super Bowl, but I did get asked to do this and be a part of something that I believe in,” Brice said.
“Charlie Kirk wanted everybody to have a microphone, and it’s a celebration of what he believed in and what he brought to the table. And I’m just proud. You know, I’m proud to be an American. And I’m excited. I’m a musician. I get to go play music,” he told Fox.
“It’s pretty quick, you know. I mean, I got like a seven-minute section. Kid’s got like an eight-minute section. And, like, it’s really so cool. We went through it all. We’ve talked about it. We’ve got it all planned out. I think it’s going to be really fun, kind of a mashup of stuff. Kind of, you know, just like any Super Bowl halftime, which is, again, what we get to do. This is going to be really fun.”
Viewers were fuming after Brice’s visit, with one person writing on X, “Why does he act like hes playing at the Super Bowl? This is humiliating.” “Star studded?? Fox News gonna get sued again for lying,” another said.
“Bro ain’t nobody watching this nonsense,” someone else added. “The dude (whoever he is) actually said he gets to play at the Superbowl??? This is right out of The Office! Lol.”
“Nobody is going to watch that crap, and even if they don’t…Fox will say EVERYONE did,” one person said.
