Mute the Madness Confront Modern Uncertainty on New Album Echoes Everywhere

New Music Friday (06/04/2026): Vince Staples, Lizzo & Taylor Swift

Every Friday, 88Nine music director Erin Wolf and Lilliput Records co-owner Tanner Musgrove tell you about the new albums you can’t miss on a new episode of On Vinyl. Check out their top picks and a list of this week’s other releases, and listen to their full conversation using the player on this page or on the 88Nine airwaves at 1 p.m. every Friday.

This Friday (and all Fridays, really) is for the club. Or, in the case of our first pick, from the club.

Dan Snaith of Caribou shopped out prelim tracks from his new album during his live DJ sets and ended up with a batch of songs that are some of his most cohesive yet. So it makes sense that the vinyl version of Butterfly released under his Daphni moniker is in hot demand (even though it’s not on its original delivery schedule … read below for more).

If you desire something less “club” and more chill, Tobias Jesso Jr.’s newest reprise into the life as a singer-songwriter will hit your ears sweetly. It’s his first album in 10 years and finds him at the height of his powers after backing other singer-songwriters for the last few.

Finally, if you’re into milking albums for all they’re worth, you’ll get a deluxe and reissue option from Djo and Tennis, respectively. Both are for the pop lovers at heart, because sometimes it’s the sweetest sounds that hit right just as those winter doldrums lay their heaviest hand. So if you’re into ’60s- and ’70s-inspired pop, drop your ears onto these two releases that extend the magic of their originals.

Happy New Music Friday!

Best new albums out Feb. 6

Daphni, Butterfly

We’re kicking February off with some dancefloor jams that also sound great in headphones, starting with 16 tracks of groovy, house-inspired sounds from musician, producer and DJ Daphni. We’ve long-been big Caribou fans and really appreciate that he carries over so much of his songcraft prowess from that other project, even when he’s making straight-up jams made for the club.

It very much makes sense that the special opaque pink-and-white, double-LP edition of this vinyl is nearly pre-sold out — because if we were club DJs, we’d want this in a big way. Vinyl is available to order (a basic black version is also out there) and will ship just a little later, with vinyl heads getting their hands on it around Feb. 19. Remember: You’ll eventually be able to find it at any record shop near you, too.

Djo, The Crux Deluxe

Before the Netflix series Stranger Things, Chicago’s Joe Keery was in a band called Post Animal. Fast-forward to wide acting acclaim, and Keery now has funds to fuel his solo career. Voila, his musical alias Djo is born.

Buoyed by his wave of fame, Djo’s 2025 album The Crux got some nice notoriety. Now that the final season of Stranger Things is wrapped up, he’s dropping a fresh take on the album called The Crux Deluxe. It features 12 additional tracks and, as Keery shares, is a legit companion piece since it was written within the same window as the songs that made up the original album. The deluxe version just has what was ultimately left on the cutting room floor. Find it on basic black vinyl via AWAL.

Tobias Jesso Jr., s h i n e

After releasing debut album Goon nearly a decade ago, Jesso Jr. took his sweet time to deliver his sophomore album. We had that first one in regular rotation way back when and were super excited when the news dropped of a new release.

In the years between, Jesso Jr. went a bit behind the scenes, writing and producing songs for Orville Peck, FKA Twigs, Adele and more. We commend that sort of work, obviously, but we’re very much stoked he’s back at it with his own material. Welcome back, Tobias! If you’re looking to pick up a physical copy, it’s available on white wax on the Many Hats label (how appropriate!) via any local record shop near you.

Tennis, Yours Conditionally

The duo introduced themselves to us with this album in 2017, and it’s still a fave. Back in The Exclusive Company days (preceding Lilliput Records), it was in hot rotation after its original release, and its reissue takes Tanner back to that time of playing the promo copy “almost maybe too much.” It’s a magical album you can listen to on repeat, and it never seems to get old.

Yours Conditionally has a very nostalgic tone and really plays on ’60s and ’70s pop influences. The couple wrote this album during a four-month sailing trip, and the reissue leans into showcasing that trip even more so with an alternate cover that is nautically inspired. With that theme, it makes sense this vinyl reissue was also pressed on sea glass colored vinyl. It’s out today on Mutually Detrimental Records.
