Band known for its hair in the ‘80s coming to Myrtle Beach

They were known for their weird, swooping hairstyles and the hit single “I Ran” that was among the biggest hits of the 1980s new wave era.

Now the band Flock of Seagulls will be making its way to Myrtle Beach to perform — minus the teased-up hair.

Actually, most of the band members, including lead singer and keyboardist Mike Score, don’t have much or any hair these days. Score, who was a hairdresser at the time and formed the band with his brother, is now rocking the bald look.

The band will perform at 7 p.m. May 23 at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach. They will be joined by Strangelove, a Depeche Mode tribute band.

The venue is standing room only; however, ticket buyers can upgrade to seating.

The band’s song “I Ran” became a U.S. hit in 1983. The band’s video has more than 222 million views on YouTube.

Although the band never really broke up, Score carried on touring during the 1990s with session musicians.

In 2003, the original lineup reunited for a one-off performance on the VH1 series “Bands Reunited.” In September 2004, they reformed again and did a brief tour in the United States. In 2018, the band appeared on a record together for the first time since 1984. In 2024, Mike Score returned with the sixth Flock of Seagulls album, “Some Dreams.” It’s the band’s first studio album in over 19 years.
