Last year, Panopticon released the folk album Laurentian Blue and the black metal album Songs Of Hiraeth. The final installment of the trilogy called Det Hjemsøkte Hjertet is coming soon, but on Friday (Feb. 6) Austin Lunn’s one-man project released a new split with German black metal outfit Uprising, with a portion of the profits going to Minneapolis immigrant legal defense.
Panopticon’s track on the split is called “Flag Burner Torch Bearer,” and it’s a re-recording of a 2020 track that appeared on a Black Lives Matter compilation. A couple weeks ago, Panopticon also released an anti-ICE benefit shirt.
Last year he removed his catalog from Spotify, explaining on his Instagram Story, “Heads up. All my music is in the process of being pulled down from Spotify. The music will still be available on other streaming services and bandcamp for digital listeners. I am against their choice to run ice recruitment adds.” On Friday, Lunn reiterated the sentiment in a since-deleted Instagram comment, saying, “They were running ice recruitment adds, so I pulled my music. They barely pay us anyways.”
