For those who have been following the Gilmore Girls alum’s career the last few years, it’s been some time since we had the chance to see Milo on the small screen. Viewers may remember him in the ABC drama The Company You Keep, but even that series was canceled after one season in 2023.
Although we haven’t seen Milo acting in anything as of late, it looks like that’s about to change. Deadline revealed on January 30 that the actor has been tapped to star in a new TV pilot for HBO Max. The show will be a cop drama called American Blue; Milo will also serve as a co-executive producer for the series.
Shortly after the news broke, one of Milo’s co-producers, Brian Udovich, went on Instagram to share the news with his followers. “Let’s go!” he wrote over a screenshot of the announcement. “Couldn’t be more excited.”
Naturally, seeing this news about the This Is Us star had fans excited in the comments.

So, what exactly will American Blue be about? As Deadline wrote, Milo will play a man named Brian “Milk” Milkovich as he unexpectedly returns home to his hometown of Joliet, Illinois. Hoping to find a second chance in life, he’s tasked with “rescuing a beleaguered police force while seeking redemption of his own.”
“American Blue will take audiences inside a gritty and authentic police drama, reflecting the myriad challenges in policing today,” said Sarah Aubrey, Head of Max Original Programming, in an official statement. “We can’t wait for [creator] Jeremy Carver’s vision for American Blue to come to life with Milo Ventimiglia in the lead role and David Ayer directing our pilot.”
