Rectal cancer was listed as an underlying cause of O’Hara’s death, but a blood clot in her lung was cited as the immediate cause.

She was rushed to the hospital in serious condition after having difficulty breathing, TMZ reported.

A representative confirmed her death to celebrity.land on Jan. 30. She was 71. O’Hara’s rep told People that a “private celebration of life will be held by the family.” Her remains were given to her husband, Bo Welch, according to TMZ.

The comedic actor was known for her roles in “Home Alone,” “Schitt’s Creek,” “Best in Show” and more.

Amid news of her sudden death last month, several of her former co-stars and other celebrities offered tributes.

Macaulay Culkin, who played O’Hara’s son in “Home Alone,” wrote a heartbreaking message on Instagram, along with photos of the two together.

Dan Levy, who played her son on the comedy “Schitt’s Creek,” wrote on Instagram that it was a “gift” to be around O’Hara’s “brilliance.”

“Having spent over fifty years collaborating with my Dad, Catherine was extended family before she ever played my family,” Levy wrote. “It’s hard to imagine a world without her in it. I will cherish every funny memory I was fortunate enough to make with her.”

The cast of “The Studio,” in which O’Hara played Patty, who mentors a film executive played by Seth Rogan, released a statement saying they were at a “loss for words” over her death.

“She was a hero to all of us, and we pinched ourselves every day that we got to work with her on ‘The Studio,’” the statement said. “She was somehow classy, warm, and hilarious all at the same time. We’re unbelievably saddened she is gone and send our deepest sympathy to [her husband] Bo and all her family.”
