Acclaimed Israeli musician and artist Idan Raichel has announced that he will present Fata Morgana, a multi-sensory desert experience combining live music with art and sound installations, in the dramatic landscape of Kfar Hanokdim, which lies between Arad and Masada in the Judean Desert.
The event will take place on April 30 and May 1, presented by toMix, and it is timed to coincide with full-moon nights. The organizers say that the desert space will be transformed into an open gallery of multidisciplinary installations designed to create a dreamlike atmosphere and a sense of wandering between reality and imagination.
The event will draw inspiration from the phenomenon known as Fata Morgana, a complex form of mirage visible in a narrow band right above the horizon. The exhibition will blend sculpture with live music and performance, taking audiences on an immersive, sensory journey.
At the evening’s peak, Raichel is scheduled to perform on a double stage. On one side, he will appear with the Haifa Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Yaron Gottfried, in sweeping orchestral arrangements, while on the other, a diverse lineup of virtuoso musicians whose songs and music illuminate the desert landscape will perform. Raichel will move between these two stages, which represent different musical worlds, drawing from his extensive repertoire.
Raichel said, “A new initiative, especially in our wonderful desert, is always an exciting event for me. Musically, and experientially as well. This is an opportunity to celebrate our powerful South, to join a festival that is a combination of Fata Morgana, imagination and creativity, and Israeli reality, and all of this in partnership with artists and creators whom I love very much.
“I already can’t wait to sing with the audience and this tremendous orchestra, on nights that we intentionally chose on the calendar as full-moon nights at Kfar Hanokdim.”
The Fata Morgana event comes along just as Raichel opens another new professional chapter: He is expected to join the international music talent competition The Voice on Channel 13. Raichel explained that he felt that this was the right time for him to take this step: “After years in which I felt it wasn’t the right time, something changed. I’m curious and excited to be a mentor to new voices.”
