United States lawmakers have intensified pressure on the British Royal Family to hold Andrew Mountbatten Windsor accountable for his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, as Attorney General Pam Bondi appeared before Congress on Wednesday.
Representative Suhas Subramanyam, a Democrat from Virginia, said King Charles must take action as the royal family’s reputation remains under scrutiny following fresh revelations from the Epstein investigation.
In terms of King Charles, the family’s reputation is on the line, so I hope they do the right thing by letting the authorities hold Andrew accountable for anything he did, Subramanyam said outside Capitol Hill on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
The congressman stated he still wants the former prince to testify before the House Oversight Committee, adding that the victims have said justice has many forms, and one of them is the reputations and titles of many of these people involved in these crimes.
Representative Melanie Stansbury, another Democrat, described Epstein as a national security risk to the United Kingdom and called for investigations into anyone who shared information with the late financier.
It is not only a stain on the reputation of all world leaders, there were leaders in association with Epstein and his sexual crimes, but it is a national security risk. What happened in the UK is Jeffrey Epstein was a national security risk to the UK, and the individuals who may have intentionally or inadvertently shared information should be held accountable, Stansbury said.
Her comments appeared to reference Peter Mandelson, the former British ambassador to the United States who resigned from the Labour Party on February 1, 2026, after revelations that he allegedly sent British government documents to Epstein while serving as business secretary between 2009 and 2010.
Mandelson is now under criminal investigation by London’s Metropolitan Police for potential misconduct in public office. The allegations include sharing market sensitive information about a 500 billion euro bailout during the 2008 financial crisis.
Representative Pramila Jayapal made an apparent reference to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who appointed Mandelson as ambassador despite knowing of his ties to Epstein.
Around the world, princes, ambassadors and even prime ministers are being brought down for their participation in this global sex trafficking ring, Jayapal said during the hearing.
The statements came as Bondi testified before the House Judiciary Committee for more than five hours on Wednesday in a contentious session focused on the Justice Department’s handling of over three million pages of Epstein documents released on January 30, 2026.
Buckingham Palace said on Monday that King Charles feels profound concern over allegations against his brother and promised to cooperate with Thames Valley Police’s investigation into claims that an Epstein victim was sent to Royal Lodge, Andrew’s former residence, in 2010.
Andrew, who was stripped of his royal title by King Charles in October 2025, has not responded to the House Oversight Committee’s invitation to testify, according to Subramanyam.
Epstein died in prison in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges. His longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell is serving a 20 year sentence after being convicted in 2021 of sex trafficking underage girls.
