Renowned voice actress Dolores Muñoz passed away on Friday, February 13, at the impressive age of 107. The National Association of Actors (NADA) confirmed the passing of the Mexican dubbing icon, though they did not disclose the cause of death.
Known also as Marcela Septien, she was among the earliest voice artists in the industry. She lent her distinctive voice to Hollywood classics like 1938’s Marie Antoinette and 1940’s Waterloo Bridge, leading to a contract with MGM in 1943.
For two years, she collaborated with them in New York, providing the Spanish voiceovers for some of the era’s biggest stars before their films premiered in Latin America. In doing so, she carved out a reputation as a trailblazer in the field.
She also served as the Spanish voice for Swedish actress Signe Hasso in films such as Dangerous Partners, The Seventh Cross, and Assignment in Britain. Even decades later, she continued to work on major films, dubbing Talia Shire’s character Adrian in Rocky IV in 1985.
Beyond live-action films, she left an indelible mark in animation, gaining immense popularity as the voice of Chip in Disney’s Chip ‘n Dale cartoons and Janice in Muppet Babies.
Her voice also graced the Spanish-language versions of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and Capitán Harlock.
As news of her death spread, tributes poured in for the beloved star. One fan expressed their admiration on Facebook, writing, “She lived a more than full life. Up to 107. Impressive woman.”
