Dark Winds, AMC’s popular crime thriller that’s received a rare 100% on Rotten Tomatoes for its first three seasons, is back with Season 4.
According to AMC, the gripping fourth season focuses on the search for a missing Navajo girl, which takes Lt. Joe Leaphorn, Jim Chee and Sgt. Bernadette Manuelito from the safety of Navajo Nation to the gritty terrain of 1970s Los Angeles in a race against the clock to save her from an obsessive killer with ties to organized crime.
Episode 1, which aired Feb. 15 on AMC, includes a new villain, played by Franka Potente, a tribute to the late Robert Redford and a surprise cameo by Linda Hamilton.

What is TV show Dark Winds about?
Set in the 1970s near Monument Valley, Dark Winds follows Navajo police Lieutenant Leaphorn and his former deputy Jim Chee as their investigations of separate crimes bring them back together.
“The closer he digs to the truth, the more he exposes the wounds of his past,” the Dark Winds fandom Wiki notes.

Was Robert Redford on Dark Winds?
Robert Redford was an executive producer on Dark Winds.
Redford had a cameo in the Season 3 premiere of Dark Winds, his final screen appearance before his death on Sept. 16, 2025. He was 89.
In the cameo, he played chess with fellow executive producer and “Game of Thrones” author George R.R. Martin.
The show paid tribute to Redford in Season 4, Episode 1, with a title card.
Is Linda Hamilton on Dark Winds Season 4?
Linda Hamilton had a surprise cameo in the Season 4 premiere of Dark Winds.
In it, she played Barbara Sena, Acting Chief Gordo Sena’s wife, who suffers from dementia.
Hamilton told People she drew on her own experience with her mother’s dementia journey.
“It just felt really sweet to be doing this to kind of honor her,” she told People.
Who is Franka Potente?
German actress Franka Potente, 51, joins Dark Winds in Season 4 as ruthless villain Irene Vaggan, who has a dark WWII past and becomes obsessed with Leaphorn.
Potente is known for her roles in Run Lola Run, The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy.
She married actor Derek Richardson in 2012. The couple lives in Los Angeles with their two daughters.

Netflix has not yet announced when it will air Season 4 of Dark Winds.
Seasons 1 through 3 are available on Netflix. Season 3 was added in October 2025.

AMC announced it has renewed Dark Winds for a fifth season.
