Meghan Markle‘s first solo royal project after marrying into the British royal family was supporting a group of women who created the Hubb Community Kitchen.
The organisation launched in the aftermath of the deadly Grenfell Tower fire of 2017, which killed 72 people, gathering in a communal kitchen at the Al Manaar Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre in West London to cook for those impacted by the blaze.
Today news emerged that the charity quietly shut their doors.
Meghan began visiting the charity in secret between her 2017 engagement and the May 2018 royal wedding, with Together: Our Community Cookbook launched months later.

The launch, in a tent on the grounds of Kensington Palace in September, marked Meghan’s biggest royal event at the time.
She brought along husband Prince Harry and mum Doria Ragland, marking her first royal engagement.

“I immediately felt connected to this community kitchen; it is a place for women to laugh, grieve, cry and cook together,” she said at the time.
The book sold almost 400,000 copies in the UK and raised £210,000 ($403,000) in the process for upgrades to the kitchen.
Meghan, now a mum-of-two, also visited the London charity’s kitchen while pregnant with son Prince Archie in November 2018 and helped prepare meals.
The Duchess of Sussex made a video call from “across the pond” in 2020, after moving to the US, to mark the charity’s third anniversary.
She praised the women for their work, calling it “love in action”.
“I think back to when I met all of you and how you had all come together in the wake of what you experienced in your community,” Meghan said at the time.
“And now what you have done is such an inspiration. You continue to give back, you continue to put love in action.”
The royal added that she and Prince Harry were “so proud”.

“We are sending so much love to you from across the pond and thinking of you today, as I’m sure it’s a difficult day, but also one where you can look at how much you’ve accomplished in the past three years, and how you continue to give back and be an example for all of those around you,” she said.
In June 2022, Meghan sent a voice note to check in with the women on the charity’s five-year anniversary – also marking five years since the fire.
But it’s understood the duchess has had significantly less involvement with the charity since moving to Los Angeles in 2020.

Now, the charity has confirmed it has closed its doors.
But it refused to be drawn on whether it had anything to do with less front-facing support from the Duchess of Sussex.
“I can’t talk about the Duchess of Sussex, but the Hubb Community Kitchen has stopped,” a spokesperson told Daily Mail.
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has yet to make any comment on the closure news.
