Exodus have released the second single and title track from their new album Goliath, arriving March 20th.

A crushing change of pace, the five-minute song is an aside into doom for Exodus, trudging forward with dissonant, evil arpeggios and the bellows of comeback-frontman-of-the-year candidate Rob Dukes. The middle bridge stands out with its string arrangements by Katie Jacoby, evoking bands like Paradise Lost in a surprising twist compared to Exodus’ typical thrash assault.

“‘Goliath’ may quite possibly be the heaviest thing we have ever done, and certainly the slowest song in our catalog, as close to doom metal as Exodus we get!” the band stated in a press release. “Just pure evil, as sinister as it gets, featuring our friend Katie Jacoby, who laid down 18 tracks of strings in the middle harmony section, making the song go from just pure horror to a thing of beauty.”

It’s the second top-shelf cut we’ve heard from the album following lead single “3111,” which took our Heavy Song of the Week honor when it dropped in January. The unhinged vocals of Rob Dukes — on his first studio recording with Exodus to be released since 2010 — were a standout element.

Meanwhile, Goliath is set to drop shortly after Exodus complete their upcoming Canadian tour supporting Megadeth in March. Over a month later, Exodus join up with Sepultura as support for the latter’s final North American tour this spring. Get tickets here.
