Actress Gabrielle Carteris is getting candid about landing the role of Andrea Zuckerman on the beloved teen drama, Beverly Hills, 90210.
During an appearance on a February 2026 episode of Still Here Hollywood Podcast w/ Steve Kmetko, Carteris shared that she “didn’t tell the truth” about her age “when [she] got 90210.” She revealed that she was nearly 30 when auditioning for the high school student.
“I told them I was 21, but I was 29. I was playing 16,” said Carteris during the interview.
She explained that she has been able to play younger characters because she “always looked young” and has a “youthful energy.”
Gabrielle Carteris Opened up About Becoming Famous Because of ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’
During the Still Here Hollywood Podcast w/ Steve Kmetko interview, Carteris, who played Andrea during the first five seasons of Beverly Hills, 90210, said she was propelled into fame after the show began airing in 1990. She shared that becoming famous “surprised” her.
“It happened overnight, it almost was overnight. I think what surprised me and I’m still surprised actually when people stop me,” said Carteris, who was the SAG-AFTRA president until 2021.
She also said she was perplexed that fans viewed her as someone with great importance. Carteris explained that she simply saw herself as an actress who was working on a set.
“I mean we’re just human beings, right? It’s just a job. It’s a job that’s public for people to see and people would talk to me like I was something more than that. And that was always a challenge for me,” said Carteris during the February 2026 podcast interview.
She clarified that she has now been able to learn “how to actually use” her influence as a way to help others.
“I think there’s a lot of power behind being known,” said Carteris in the podcast interview.
Carteris also said she views her experience on Beverly Hills, 90210, which had a 10-season run, as an “incredible joy.”
“It was a great era,” said the 65-year-old actress.
