Prince Andrew Viral Photo Hung in Louvre by U.K. Activists Following Royal’s Recent Arrest

A group of activists hung the now-viral photo of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor being released from jail in the Louvre following his recent arrest.

According to a TikTok video uploaded by the United Kingdom-based activist group People Vs Elon on Sunday, February 22, some members of the organization placed a framed photo of the former royal, 66, in the museum after his arrest. (The photo, which made headlines last week, featured Andrew looking distressed in a vehicle after he was released from custody.)

In the clip, a person whose face was blurred was seen putting up Andrew’s picture on one of the Louvre’s red walls. They also included a plaque underneath the image that read, “He’s sweating now. 2026.”

“They say ‘Hang it in the Louvre,’ so we did,” the video’s caption read.

Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office on Thursday, February 19. That same day, the former Duke of York was photographed with a shocked expression on his face while sitting in the backseat of a car driving out of Aylsham Police Station in the United Kingdom.

Andrew’s brother, King Charles III, confirmed that his brother was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office in a statement obtained by Us Weekly.

“I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office,” his statement read.. “What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities. In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and cooperation.”

If convicted, Andrew faces life in prison.

Prior to this, the Thames Valley Police told the BBC that they were investigating claims that Andrew shared confidential information with late billionaire sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein during his time as a U.K. trade envoy from 2001 to 2011. (Epstein died by suicide at age 66 in August 2019.)

“We can confirm receipt of this report and are assessing the information in line with our established procedures,” a spokesperson for the police department told the BBC in February.

Andrew and Epstein connected during the 1990s. Their former friendship began making headlines in 2019 when the late Virginia Giuffre alleged that she had multiple sexual encounters with Andrew in 2001 when she was underage. Andrew has vehemently denied the allegations.

Giuffre sued Andrew for sexual abuse in 2021. They settled the lawsuit outside of court the following year. Giuffre died by suicide at age 41 in April 2025. Following her death, her memoir, Nobody’s Girl, was released posthumously. In the book, Giuffre further detailed her alleged experiences with Andrew and Epstein.

Giuffre’s family reacted to the news of Andrew’s arrest via a statement per the Today show, “At last. Today our broken hearts have been lifted at the news that no one is above the law, not even royalty. On behalf of our sister, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, we extend our gratitude to the Thames Valley Police for the investigation and arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.”

Last year, Buckingham Palace announced that Charles, 77, would be stripping Andrew of his royal style, titles and honors amid public scrutiny over his association with Epstein, as well as sexual assault allegations.

“Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence,” the palace said in an October 2025 statement. “Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation. These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him.”
