The former Duke of York sits in eighth place in line to the throne behind Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, Prince Harry and his two children. The disgraced royal still holds his place in the line of succession but was stripped of his titles, including his princely title and honours, last year over his connection to the late paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
Asked in a poll conducted by the Daily Express on the day of his arrest, which also happened to be his birthday, royal fans were asked if Andrew should be stripped of his position in the line of succession.
The poll, which ran between 12.50am on February 19 and 10.15am on February 24, showed that 6,501 [95 percent] of the 6,865 fans who voted believe that he should be removed from the line of succession.
Just 289 [4 percent] fans voted that he should remain in his position and an additional 75 people [1 percent] voted that they were unsure if he should be removed or not.
Taking to the comment section, one fan commented: “Not only should Andrew be removed from the line of succession but it should go further…”
Another added: “Yes. Immediately…”
A third added: “If titles are removed then yes remove from [line of succession] – if they remain in [line of succession] and for a very rare possibility if the end up high to they regain their titles?”
A fourth said: “Absolutely he should!…”
Andrew held the role of the UK’s trade envoy from 2001 to 2011, giving him privileged access to senior government and business contacts around the world
