Melbourne-based pop punks Danger Den are back with another frenetic offering of energetic sonic goodness they’ve titled ‘Given’.

A taster of their forthcoming EP ‘It’ll Be Alight’ that’s scheduled to drop next month, ‘Given’ encourages the listener to shed toxic habits, rise above the influence of narcissistic individuals, and embrace change with strength and positivity.

A cheeky bossa nova-styled intro adds a delightful twist to the song as the band asks “do you like jazz?”, which quickly explodes into a maelstrom of punk-rock-fuelled mayhem featuring rollicking, punchy drums and anarchy-flavoured guitar riffage that’s equal parts Starburst flavour as it is Fisherman’s Friend potency.

It’s an all-out attack of noise with a catchy sing-along chorus (“Got new perceptions / I got a sense of why”) that has elements of the ’90s alternative scene melded to the band’s pop-punk style; don’t sleep on the killer guitar solo from lead guitarist James McGrath either, who shreds like his rent money depends on it.

“‘Given’ is about second chances and new beginnings,” frontman-guitarist Jeremy Uyloan says. “It’s written by our lead guitarist and vocalist James McGrath and he originally sang it in the demo.”

Ahead of the song’s release tomorrow (27 February), today scenestr is amped to premiere the ‘Given’ music video.

“Our producers Ash Daws and Evan Lee from the Loud Noise Estate suggested that I should sing it instead,” adds Uyloan. “They felt that if James sang the song we would sound like a completely different band, so to keep our sound consistent I sang it instead.”

Danger Den’s new EP ‘It’ll Be Alight’ features ‘Given’ as well as previous singles ‘New Year’s Eve’ and ‘Daisy’ (which scenestr also premiered) alongside lighter, melodic moments like ‘New Ways’. It’s a collection of songs fans of All Time Low, Good Charlotte, Gyroscope, Jimmy Eat World, and Foo Fighters will enjoy.

Danger Den play Bad Decisions Bar (Melbourne) on 7 March.
