For the big day, the “Suits” actor dolled up in a gown and veil designed by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy. Her custom-made veil paid homage to all 53 Commonwealth countries.
While many fans were impressed with her wedding attire, as per royal editor Russell Myers, the late Queen Elizabeth was not happy with her dress, particularly with her decision to wear it. “[Royal author Sally] Bedell Smith described how Meghan ‘refused’ to tell the Queen about her wedding dress and had insisted on wearing a veil, which the Queen privately disagreed with, due to her being a divorcee,” Myers mentioned in his new book, “William & Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story,” reported Express.
Even Queen Camilla and Princess Anne decided against wearing veils or classic white gowns, because, like Markle, they were both previously married before their current marriages. At the time, Kensington Palace released a statement saying that the actor “expressed the wish of having all 53 countries of the Commonwealth with her on her journey through the ceremony,” adding that “Ms. Waight Keller designed a veil representing the distinctive flora of each Commonwealth country united in one spectacular floral composition.”
Additionally, the late Queen Elizabeth was also upset with Harry as he “had asked the Archbishop of Canterbury to perform the ceremony at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, instead of the Dean of Windsor, as tradition would dictate.”
