Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was a “classic school bully” who once sacked an employee for a mole on his face, according to historic claims. The former prince’s conduct has long been a source of conversation in royal circles, with Andrew often criticised for being entitled and arrogant.

According to royal author Tom Quinn, numerous former royal staffers who spoke with him as he wrote his book ‘Entitled’ detailed how poorly they were treated at the hands of the former duke. They allege that Andrew would react badly if anyone used the improper title and was known to explode with rage if they did not bow when he came in the room. Andrew is said to have forced maids to climb four flights of stairs to open the curtains for him in the morning, and allegedly banished one because he “couldn’t bear” a mole on the man’s face, and another for wearing a nylon tie.

In another book penned by Quinn, Gilded Youth, the author alleges that as a youngster, the Queen’s son could practically get away with anything and everything.

He wrote: “From the very earliest, Andrew seems to have imbibed a sense of his own importance that outweighed that of any of his siblings, partly, no doubt, this was simply innate, but perhaps too it was the extra attention he received from his mother.”

A former Buckingham Palace maid recalled: “I knew Andrew when he was out of the nursery but still fairly young. It’s very difficult to be fair to him because he was so horrible. He treated the staff as if they were dirt.

“Imagine a little boy walking up to a middle-aged man who had worked for the Queen for decades and saying, ‘Bring me that horse’, referring to a toy on the other side of the room, and the poor man would have to fetch it.”

Despite his unruly childhood, Andrew did not always have things his own way and is reported to have taken things a step too far with some employees.

One former staffer recalled how as a young royal: “He was five he was staying at Windsor and bored, so he wandered into the stables and began to tease the grooms and stable lads, even going so far as to hit the legs of the horses with a stick.”

“After the stable staff politely suggested that perhaps he should go elsewhere, his behaviour became so awful that they threw him on a dung heap and shovelled horse manure on top of him. Enraged, he ran off shouting that he would tell his mother.”

After running to his mother, Queen Elizabeth, to tell tales of the stable boy’s behaviour, it is believed that the monarch told him that it served him right and there were no repercussions for the stable staff, with Andrew left furious at them avoiding punishment.

The Express has contacted Andrew for comment.
