Jasmine Roth is reflecting on her move to Utah and some of the biggest changes she’s experienced since leaving California.
“So first a little backstory. We moved to Park City, UT full-time 1.5 years ago,” Roth, 41, began in a post shared via Instagram on Monday, March 2. “We lived for the previous 15 years in Huntington Beach, CA. We’ve had a vacation home here since 2015, got married here in 2013, and my husband has been snowboarding here since he was a kid.”
The HGTV personality explained, “So it’s not like we just picked up and moved, but at the same time, we basically just made a decision one day and moved. We didn’t have a super solid reason and when asked ‘why’ I give a different answer each time. Sometimes I say we like snowboarding (true!), sometimes I say we wanted a slower pace (also true!), and usually I just shrug and say ‘why not?’”
Jasmine, who shares daughters Hazel, 5, and Darla, 18 months, with husband Brett Roth, admitted, “It’s been a CHANGE and at times it’s been really hard.” The post included photos of the family of four spending time around the city, eating yummy-looking treats, visiting a ski slope, taking in the gorgeous mountain views and more.
“If you haven’t done it lately – moving is no joke! Add a preemie newborn and our careers on top of that and yeah, it’s been challenging,” the Help! I Wrecked My House host shared. “But I can also honestly say that we’ve also grown so much. Obviously the kids have literally grown, but Brett and I have changed too. I’m not sure if we both sorta knew it was time for the next phase or what, but we’ve transformed. A lot can change in 1.5 years and it has!”
For the Roths, the “biggest change” they’ve had to adapt to is how they spend their time.
“We’re both still working full time but the minute we’re done working (and often before we’re done) our childcare is up and it’s right into full parenting mode,” Jasmine explained. “When I first went back to work full-time (and even before that) it was often overwhelming. The switch from 1 to 2 kids means you’re literally giving double the energy towards being parents and that took some time to get used to.”
Jasmine admitted that moving made her circle of friends a lot “smaller.”
“What was always dinner parties and rolling deep with an entourage of friends has changed to much more time with just us and our girls,” she noted. “It took some getting used to but I also think it’s part of ‘growing up’ and now I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Jasmine said she and Brett like exploring new restaurants in Park City, but they also enjoy staying home and having bingo and taco nights. Above all, they’ve loved getting to spend more time with their kids, even if it sometimes means taking a longer drive than usual.
“I also love that our town is small and I can pop away from work and have lunch with my girls,” Jasmine wrote. “Sometimes it’s frustrating because we have to drive pretty far for certain doctor’s appointments or specific shopping, but I’m getting used to that part and it just makes me plan ahead a lot more.”
Jasmine said there hasn’t been much snow in Utah this winter, so she has been taking advantage of the nice weather by going for walks.
“It’s certainly different going for a walk in the mountains vs along the beach in California,” she confessed. “Another thing that made our move successful is remembering to be tourists in our own town. For years we’ve loved visiting here and we wanted to make sure to not lose that magic once we lived here full time. So a horse drawn sleigh ride up the mountain to a fireside dinner?! Yes please!”
Jasmine finished her post, saying, “So all that to say, YES the move was worth it. Not easy, but we are settling in and building happiness one day at a time.”
The Rock the Block winner announced her family was moving to Utah in June 2024.
“The move was jarring. It was something that I thought was going to be a little easier than it was,” Jasmine exclusively told Us Weekly that September. “But a year in, I’m feeling like we’re getting our groove a little bit. I just feel like we’re getting settled a little bit more. But it’s been a journey.”
