Nicely Entertainment has wrapped production on “Trivia Night Mysteries,” a new original movie franchise marking the mystery-genre debut of longtime “Family Guy” writer, executive producer, and former showrunner Steve Callaghan. The company confirmed the completion of its 90-minute pilot film—also structured as a two-part, 2×60’ event titled “Trivia Night Mysteries: A Question of Murder”—with pre-production already underway for subsequent installments.
Filmed on location in Jefferson City, Missouri, the project stars Morgan Bradley as Sara Keane, a sharp-witted fact-checker and trivia champion drawn into amateur sleuthing after a rival player is murdered. Alex Trumble appears as Reid Taggart, a charming lawyer who becomes both investigative partner and potential romantic interest. The film is directed by Bruce Wemple, with the story by Callaghan and Shannon Payette Seip and teleplay scripts for the full franchise penned by Callaghan.
Blending small-town charm with character-driven humor and suspenseful plotting, “Trivia Night Mysteries” is positioned as a fresh twist on the cozy mystery format. Scott Kirkpatrick, EVP of Distribution and Co-Productions at Nicely Entertainment, said, “Working with Steve on ‘Trivia Night Mysteries’ has been an absolute joy. Steve’s track record of crafting smart, character-rich storytelling made him the perfect partner for this project. Collaborating with such an incredible creative team and talented cast has resulted in something truly special — a cozy mystery with humor, heart, and a heroine you can’t help but root for.”
Callaghan expressed equal enthusiasm, noting, “I’m beyond thrilled to see ‘Trivia Night Mysteries’ come to life. This world and its characters are so much fun to write, and I can’t wait for viewers to watch Sara and Reid search for clues while simultaneously navigating their budding, flirtatious attraction to each other. Partnering with Nicely on this series of movies has been an amazing experience — they’ve built an environment that champions creativity and delivers stories that connect with audiences everywhere.”
Nicely Entertainment Founder & CEO Vanessa Shapiro added, “We are so excited to be working with the very talented Steve Callaghan on ‘Trivia Night Mysteries.’ We’re confident this engaging and witty mystery series will be embraced by audiences everywhere, combining clever storytelling with the charm and intrigue viewers love.”
Now in post-production, “Trivia Night Mysteries” will be ready for delivery in Q1 2026, with Nicely Entertainment handling worldwide distribution. The franchise marks the company’s third foray into the cozy mystery category, following “The Abigail Mysteries” and “The Christmas Recipe Files,” the latter also starring Bradley. The expansion comes as Nicely continues to build its feel-good entertainment slate, including returning series “Crossroad Springs” and new 2025 movie releases across major platforms.
Shapiro and Kirkpatrick serve as executive producers on the franchise alongside Callaghan, who is represented by Yorn Levine Barnes. A two-time Emmy nominee, Callaghan has been part of Family Guy since its inception and has served in leading creative roles on American Dad!, Yes, Dear, and MTV’s 3-South.
“Trivia Night Mysteries” follows Sara Keane, a freelance fact-checker and team trivia standout whose investigative instincts are put to the test when a rival contestant is murdered outside a local tavern. Using her deep knowledge of trivia, sharp analytical skills, and the help of her trivia team and a newcomer lawyer, she must uncover the truth before becoming the next target.
