Britney Spears was placed under arrest in California in relation to an incident while driving.
The 44-year-old ‘Baby One More Time’ singer was put in police custody in Ventura County, California at around 9:30pm local time on Wednesday (March 4).
According to Variety, Spears was arrested by the California Highway Patrol for a DUI and booked at around 3am on Thursday morning.
She has since been released from police custody, and is now scheduled to appear in court on May 4.
News of the arrest comes less than a month after it was revealed that Spears had sold the rights to her entire music catalogue, which includes popular tracks including ‘Toxic’, ‘Gimme More’ and ‘Womanizer’, to independent music publisher Primary Wave.
BBC News reports that Spears sold her catalogue on 30 December, 2025 for around $200 million. She had previously made clear that she would ‘never return to the music industry’, having released her last song, a duet with Elton John, in 2022.
