Wilmington record and book shop The Fuzzy Needle, located in the Cargo District, doesn’t host a ton of live music. But when they do, attending is a no-brainer.

Case in point, the March 4 show there with a trio of top-notch, touring singer-songwriters: buzzy New York artist Al Olender, Philadelphia soulstress Abigail Dempsey and Wilmington gem Ahna Ell. The three solo acts are close friends (Dempsey and Ell are sisters) who are on a two-month U.S. tour, and that sisters-in-arms vibe permeated the whole show.

About 50 or so music fans — some of them sitting silently on the floor, crisscross applesauce in front of the performers — locked in to make it a true listening-room environment.

Dempsey played first, using loop pedals to harmonize with herself, creating sound paintings that touched on themes of bittersweet romance.

Ell followed, playing songs from her new EP, “Ride On,” and closing with the title track, a folky spine-tingler about carrying on through the ups and downs.

Olender closed the show, headlining in support of her stellar new album, “The Worrier,” which was released Feb. 13. She’s the real deal, with a world-class voice and songs filled with wit and feeling. Not to mention a stage presence worthy of a stand-up comic.

Catch a show at The Fuzzy Needle if you can. Now let’s see what’s going down in Wilmington this weekend.
