Diane Warren has no love lost for Kristi Noem after news broke that President Donald Trump is replacing her as the Secretary of Homeland Security.
“Bye bitch,” Warren, 69, wrote via X on Thursday, March 5.
Hours after sharing her cryptic post, the songwriter provided some context for her previous message.
“To clarify, the bye bitch post was about puppy killer barbie Kristi Noem,” she wrote in a subsequent tweet.
Warren was referring to the incident where Noem, 54, shot and killed her dog Cricket. In her 2024 memoir, No Going Back, Noem claimed Cricket was “untrainable” and became “dangerous to anyone she came in contact with.”
“I hated that dog,” she wrote, adding that Cricket was “like a trained assassin.”
Noem said that the decision to kill Cricket came after the dog attacked a local family’s chickens and bit her.
“It was not a pleasant job,” Noem wrote. “But it had to be done.”
In addition to being responsible for Cricket’s death, Noem confessed to killing a goat on her farm. According to Noem, the goat was “nasty and mean,” especially toward her children.
Noem has received backlash for her decision to kill animals over the years. The incident was also a running joke on South Park. Despite the backlash, the former South Dakota politician has defended her actions.
“Whether running the ranch or in politics, I have never passed on my responsibilities to anyone else to handle. Even if it’s hard and painful. I followed the law and was a responsible parent, dog owner and neighbor,” Noem wrote via X in April 2024. “The fact is, South Dakota law states that dogs who attack and kill livestock can be put down. Given that Cricket had shown aggressive behavior toward people by biting them, I decided what I did.”

After Noem’s scandal, Trump appointed her as the United States Secretary of Homeland Security. During her time in the role, she was put in charge of securing the border. Noem was responsible for U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) and the organization’s subsequent raids.
Earlier this week, Trump fired Noem and nominated Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin as her replacement.
“She’s a fine person. She did a good job,” Trump told NBC News. “I’m a big fan of the senator from Oklahoma. It wasn’t a hard choice.”
Noem will now serve as Trump’s United States Special Envoy for the Shield of the Americas.
