Frisco’s top official is looking forward to Taylor Sheridan’s new Paramount+ show filming in his city.
Word broke late last month that Sheridan’s forthcoming “Tulsa King” spinoff had been retitled from “NOLA King” to “Frisco King,” in reference to the North Texas city. Filming is slated to begin later this month in Fort Worth, Frisco and other surrounding cities.
“Frisco King” will star Samuel L. Jackson as Russell Lee Washington Jr., a hitman that crossed paths with Sylvester Stallone’s “Tulsa King” character Dwight Manfredi. Jackson appeared in the final two episodes of the show’s third season last year.
Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney recently posted a lengthy message on Facebook about the show.
“Lights, camera, action! There has been a lot of buzz since last week’s announcement of ‘Frisco King,’ the new spinoff from hit show ‘Tulsa King’ and starring Samuel L. Jackson and written by Taylor Sheridan,” Cheney wrote.
‘Frisco King’ is coming to North Texas
After the announcement, Cheney said he met with the show’s producers to learn more about what’s next.
The first three episodes are written and filming will begin later this month. Much of the daily filming will take place in Fort Worth, but the production will need one to two shooting days in Frisco for each episode on top of capturing b-roll upfront.
“So you will be seeing them around town fairly often over the coming months,” Cheney wrote.

Like “Tulsa King,” Cheney said that “Frisco King” will have a similar “fish out of water” premise.
This means that Jackson’s character will give up his New Orleans roots to start a new life in “modern day Mayberry.” The rationale comes from Stallone’s character who tells Jackson he needs to visit Frisco.
As far as what to expect in Frisco hallmarks, Cheney said that the producers joked that nobody knows the direction of the script until Sheridan writes it, including himself.
“They did say they would be portraying in a positive light and Frisco is one of the ‘characters’ in the show that the community will be proud of,” Cheney wrote.
Around 70% of the cast will be locals and there will be a separate talent page for Frisco residents looking to work on the show as extras, Cheney noted.
Texas-based Legacy Casting announced last week that it’s looking for background actors for a variety of roles. All roles will be paid and vary in the hours of work. To apply for any of these roles, Legacy is asking folks to visit MyCastingFile.com.
Cheney plans to share more about “Frisco King” in the coming months.

“Frisco King” will be eight episodes and Sheridan is writing all of them himself.
Sheridan, Jackson and Stallone will all executive produce the show. Additional producers include Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Christina Alexandra Voros, Michael Friedman, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Keith Cox and 101 Studios CEO David Glasser.
No release date has been set for the series.
