The Naked Magicians — yes, naked — will bring their show to the Gallo Center. Also set for the downtown Modesto venue is medium Tyler Henry. It’s a busy week of entertainment from March 14-20 for the Modesto region, with a host of comedy, music and more events planned.
The Naked Magicians
So will the two men who make up The Naked Magicians really get naked on stage when they bring their show to the Gallo Center? Well, yes, but they have a certain trick up their removed sleeves. They start the show clothed, but slowly disrobe during their magic act. While completely nude by the end, they do retain strategically placed top hats.
Australia’s The Naked Magicians have appeared on “America’s Got Talent” and “Entertainment Tonight.” The Naked Magicians have performed in more than 300 cities worldwide. The show is for age 18 and older only.

Hollywood Medium
Tyler Henry, The Hollywood Medium, brings his show “An Evening of Hope and Healing” to the Gallo Center. Henry, star of Netflix series “Live From the Other Side” and “Life After Death with Tyler Henry” and E! Entertainment’s “Hollywood Medium with Tyler Henry,” is making a return appearance to the Modesto venue. During his current show, Henry “explains how he communicates with the other side,” according to the center’s website, and gives live audience readings. Limited tickets remained available.

We Own The Laughs
We Own The Laughs: Modesto returns to the State Theater, this time with headliner Annie Lederman. The event also will feature comedy performances by Patrick Eley, Tyson Paul and Maddi Mays. George Brett Olson will host. It’s for age 18 and older only.

Willie Barcena
There’s more comedy planned at the State Theatre, with comedian Willie Barcena. “His universal material spans family, religion, race, sex, politics, and whatever else you aren’t supposed to talk about,” according to the theater’s website. He has appeared on TV shows including his own specials on Comedy Central, Showtime and Netflix.

Americana Concert
Opera Modesto celebrates the nation’s 250th anniversary with music by American composers Gershwin, Copland, Bernstein and others. The Americana Concert at the Graffiti USA Museum will feature professional and student chorus groups. Soloists will be Sheri Stambaugh, Ashley Dahlin and Gregory Pyatt. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase, with proceeds supporting The museum. The Mistlin Reunion Art Show will be on exhibit during the concert.

Rock & Gem Show
The Turlock Rock & Gem Show is set to mark its 60th year at the Stanislaus County Fairground in Turlock, presented by the nonprofit Mother Lode Mineral Society. The all-ages event is geared toward educating children. There will be two buildings filled with touch-and-see items such as real fossils and replicas that can be held, with others on exhibit; megalodon teeth replicas, with real ones on display; dinosaur claw replicas; marine fossils; and a variety of rocks and crystals. A fluorescent room will have rocks and flashing lights that change and rotate. There will be demonstrations, rock sales, geode cutting, gold panning, jewelry and more.
A moving velociraptor will show up both days at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and will remain in one area as long as it takes to give every child a chance to pet or touch the faux dinosaur.

Science Day
Stanislaus State Science Day will be held at the Turlock campus. Activities will give kids a chance to make slime, extract DNA from strawberries, see fossil displays, enjoy telescope viewing and take part in hands-on chemistry demonstrations. Children are encouraged to take a bag to collect keepsakes from activities, demonstrations and swag such as pens, notepads, stickers and more. Snacks and T-shirts will be available for purchase.

Modesto Film Society
“An American in Paris” is set as the next presentation by the Modesto Film Society. In the 1951 film, an American expatriate in Paris is looking to make a reputation as a painter. A lonely socialite supports him, but is interested in more than his art.

Arbor Day
The Modesto Garden Club is hosting its annual Arbor Day celebration and will plant a valley oak tree at Roosevelt Park. The deciduous valley oak is the largest oak in North America, according to a flyer for the event. It can live up to 600 years. Community dignitaries are set to speak at the presentation.

MAPS program
The next Modesto Area Partners in Science program, “Vaccines for Parasites: Can We Do It?” will be presented by Kirk Jensen from UC Merced. Parasitic diseases are a major health problem in developing countries. Jensen will discuss if it’s possible to develop effective vaccinations against parasites, instead of focusing on treatment after infection.
