The Duchess of Sussex is set to appear at a women-only weekend retreat in Sydney, Australia, in April, where she will speak at a gala dinner. Touted as “a girls’ weekend like no other”, Meghan will speak at a gala dinner, with VIP ticket holders offered front-row seats and a group photo with the duchess.
A PR strategist claims Meghan Markle‘s success will depend upon to key things. Speaking exclusively to the Daily Express, Olivia Bennet, Go Up’s PR Director said: “Her success will depend less on the speech itself and more on how the experience is received by the people attending. If participants leave feeling that the conversation was meaningful and that sentiment is shared online, it strengthens Meghan’s positioning as a speaker and advocate.
“If public discussion focuses only on the ticket price, the attention shifts away from the substance of what she’s there to discuss.”
Discussing whether the trip will work well for Meghan, the PR expert added: “Events like this can work well for Meghan because they align with the type of public role she has been building since stepping back from royal duties.
“She has increasingly focused on conversations around wellbeing, female empowerment and personal resilience. A setting like a retreat allows for a more thoughtful and controlled environment, which often suits speakers far better than a traditional media interview.”
Speaking of the cost of the event, Olivia added: “The £1,400 ticket price will naturally attract headlines… but that doesn’t necessarily mean the model is unusual. Retreat-style events often bundle together workshops, accommodation and curated experiences, so attendees are paying for the wider programme rather than simply a single talk.
“For many guests, the value is in the overall experience and the opportunity to hear from a high-profile speaker in a smaller setting.”
