While the Academy Awards red carpet is typically packed with nominees posing for photographers ahead of the ceremony, one of this year’s hottest couples was noticeably absent. Despite being nominated for Best Actor, Timothée Chalamet did not walk the red carpet with Kylie Jenner ahead of the 2026 Oscars. Instead, he walked solo – with Jenner posting her outfit on Instagram but not arriving with her boyfriend.
Chalamet is nominated tonight for his role in Marty Supreme, in which he plays a hustler ping pong champion in a performance that has already earned several nominations this awards season. Last year during awards season for his movie A Complete Unknown, he boldly claimed he was set on becoming ‘one of the greats’, but missed out on that all-important Oscar so all eyes are on him tonight.

Fans may be surprised then that Chalamet chose not to walk the red carpet with Jenner ahead of tonights ceremony. Could it be that his recent controversial comments about ballet and opera being a dying art form put her off? The actor became embroiled in controversy when he claimed ‘no one cares’ about either ballet or opera, in a conversation about the decline in people going to the cinema to view films. His admittedly eyebrow raising comments have resulted in major backlash from fans, with some calling him out for not showing enough respect for other artistic mediums.
That said, Jenner is hardly shy of controversy herself – and it’s unlikely his ill-advised comments actually stopped them from walking the red carpet together. In fact, they have form for it. Despite dating for three years now, the couple have only ever walked two red carpets together – and none for a major award ceremony yet. They do however tend to appear loved up during the ceremonies themselves.
It’s not entirely unheard of for actors to skip the red carpet for an award ceremony altogether. For some, it’s simply a logistical choice. Arrivals can take hours, with celebrities stopping repeatedly for interviews and photographs before the ceremony starts. Others prefer to avoid the intense media attention or arrive privately to focus on the event itself.
It’s also fairly common for nominees to arrive through alternative entrances or closer to the start of the ceremony to avoid the red carpet rush.
Chalamet has taken a relatively low-key approach to some awards season appearances this year, despite the strong response to Marty Supreme – and a promotional tour that saw him and Jenner wear matching orange outfits. So even though he chose to walk the the red carpet without his partner, make no mistake: Jenner and Chalamet won’t be afraid to make a PDA statement during the ceremony itself. And we’ll be watching.
