The USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative tracks women’s involvement in the music industry. Their latest report raises cause for concern. Here are some highlight.
- Female artists took up just 36.1 of all the spots on the big US charts in 2025, which is down from 37.7% in 2024.
- Women songwriters accounted for just 14.5% of all hit songs, down from 18.9% from 2024.
- Only 4.4% were producers
The report also features some encouraging news. It says that 57.8% of hit songs were from under-represented social groups, which is better than the 44.6% in 2024.
