This exhibit is like an 11-o’clock number! Helicline Fine Art’s new exhibition Showstoppers: The Art of Stage and Screen is on view through May 10. The exhibition brings together more than three dozen works capturing the impact of theatre, film, dance, opera, and popular entertainment.
The featured productions include Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, My Fair Lady, Funny Girl, Sweet Charity, West Side Story, The King and I, Bye Bye Birdie, The Wiz, Anything Goes, Opèra De Paris, South Pacific, The Pajama Game, Follies, and the legendary nightlife of Studio 54, among others. Many of the works are from private collections, and are rarely seen publicly.
The exhibit spans works from the 1920s to the 90s, including paintings, costume and set design drawings, sculptures, modernist composition inspired by performance, and more. It underscores the enduring dialogue between fine art and entertainment.
“While I have operated Helicline Fine Art since 2008, my lifelong professional passion has been running a Times Square communications firm,” Keith Sherman, co-founder and proprietor of Helicline Fine Art, said in a statement. “From the first days of my career, I’ve worked in theatre, film, TV, music, dance, and major cultural events. Some of the artists in this exhibition were friends — and even clients. These works are deeply meaningful to me, and I believe they will resonate powerfully with anyone who loves entertainment and the arts.”
