Spotify’s AI DJ Expands to Premium Listeners in New Markets

Spotify’s AI-based DJ is now available to Premium subscribers in Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, and Poland.

Starting today, Spotify’s AI-based DJ is now available to Premium Spotify listeners in both English and Spanish across several new markets. These include Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, and Poland.

Spotify’s DJ is a personalized music guide that “delivers a curated lineup of songs alongside commentary about the artists and tracks.” If you know what you want to listen to, you can make a request directly to your AI DJ for a curated session.

The DJ can “scan the latest releases” that match your taste, or “take you back to that nostalgic playlist you had on repeat last year.” It accomplishes this through a combination of Spotify’s personalization algorithm and generative AI via OpenAI technology.

“DJ’s powerful combination of our personalized technology, generative AI in the hands of our music experts, and a dynamic AI voice makes it possible for listening to feel even more personal, and fans to keep coming back for more,” Spotify said in a blog post when the feature first launched.

The voice model for the DJ comes from a partnership with Spotify’s own Head of Cultural Partnerships, Xavier “X” Jernigan, who previously served as a host on Spotify’s first morning show, The Get Up. His voice is the first model for the DJ, and Spotify indicates there will be more voice options down the road.

According to Spotify, the DJ has driven music discovery for Premium users and has led to over 85 billion streams since its launch in 2023. The feature rolled out in the UK and Ireland shortly after its release, before expanding to 46 more markets worldwide later that year.

To access the DJ, type “DJ” into the search bar and either start a session with a tap or make your request via voice or text by tapping the DJ button at the bottom right of the screen.
