Ten new tracks land on the Discovery Playlist this week, including two which we premiered earlier in the week. But, it’s DMA’S who take out Track of the Week with their long-awaited return, “My Baby’s Place”.

Opening with hazy psych-rock textures before launching into an emotive, arena-ready rush, the track finds frontman Tommy O’Dell in peak form. After teasing new material across social media—and even slipping a mystery snippet over the PA at recent UK shows—the wait is finally over. It marks the band’s first new music since 2023’s How Many Dreams?, arriving as they continue celebrating a decade of their debut album Hills End on stages around the world.

The much-loved five-piece POND return with “Terrestrials”, a swirling, introspective meditation on the contradictions of humanity—our capacity for both deep connection and devastating destruction. The track leans into the band’s signature psych-pop expansiveness while grappling with some of life’s biggest questions. Frontman Nicholas Allbrook frames humans as the “weirdest of all terrestrials,” caught between love, violence and the ever-present weight of past and future. It’s a theme that feels almost supernatural in scope, echoed in the track’s rich sonic textures. It comes with an arresting new video by Jesse Taylor Smith, and is their first release since their acclaimed tenth album Stung! and sets the stage for another expansive chapter.

Sophomore single “Life of the Party” marks the return of Sunshine Coast four-piece Cherry Nova. An intimate slice of indie rock, “Life of the Party” explores a different side of the glitter, glamour and parties – the come down from a night of extroversion and excess. Delivered with restraint and emotionally subtlety, “Life of the Party” is perhaps ironically titled – but thanks to some gorgeous guitar work and stunning vocals, lingers well past its runtime.

Led by Perth singer-songwriter Justin Davies, The Tortured Souls introduce themselves with “Unforgettable Days”, a poignant and deeply reflective meditation on lost love, memory and those fleeting moments that linger long after they’ve passed. The track is built around soaring piano, rousing percussion and lush string arrangements,  and has some heavy hitters involved, including producer Rob Grant and members of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra—that gives it a timeless, almost baroque-pop grandeur, not unlike the emotive pull of Lou Reed at his most tender.

Fresh from a sold out UK and European tour supporting Florence + The Machine, Paris Paloma returns this week with her powerful new single “Miyazaki” – yes, that Miyazaki. Named for the legendary Studio Ghibli director, the single is a defiant ode to human creativity in the face on an onslaught of AI slop. As Paloma explains it, “I wrote this song for everyone who has an urgent and unexplained need to express themselves through their art; it is for the painters, the dancers, the writers, the storytellers, the crafters, the directors, the singers, musicians, anybody who relates to this creative fire, and the threat that AI generated slop might take the place of essential humanity.” Full of energy, “Miyazaki’ is bright, bold and is bursting with this really endearing optimistic energy – a real rallying cry to creativity!

“Everything” is the new single from Brisbane’s Baby Cool (a.k.a Nice Biscuit’s Grace Cuell) and the first taste of her forthcoming sophomore album Infinity Baby, which is all set for release on June 5th. According to Cuell, “[Everything] embodies the desperation that comes from trying to squeeze meaning from every moment… the way that a relentless pursuit for meaning can be an intoxicating and uprooting practice.”. And that relentlessness does kind of come through. “Everything” is a vibe! A complete hand-clapping, foot stomping, psych-tinged retro vibe, and we’re very much here for it.

Also added to the playlist this week we have the new single from Brooklyn alt music legends They Might Be Giants, “Outside Brain”; and “Price of it All”, the gorgeous and effortlessly cinematic new single from Jorja Smith which features on the soundtrack of forthcoming Prime Video series Bait. Finally, we’ve also added “Winterlude” from Damien Binder, and “Reflections” from MUKI, which we premiered earlier in the week.
