Rising PA rockers American Vanity release the music video for their latest single, “Poison In Your Cup.” The track is the second offering off their debut album, 17, available everywhere on July 17th.
The music video for “Poison In Your Cup” draws inspiration from Don’t Worry Darling, unfolding as a striking visual that rejects compliance, dismantles illusion, and captures the moment awareness breaks through. Singer Virginia Franks stars as a mail-order “home companion unit,” designed to cater to the men around her, who begins to unravel as expectations pile up and respect erodes. Throughout the video, it weaves in real comments pulled directly from the band’s social media, sharply underscoring the unfiltered reality women in music continue to face online.
Explains Virginia:
“Every comment you see in the video came straight from our social media. Women artists deal with this shit every single day. People assume you didn’t write the song, you didn’t write the lyrics, you’re not really playing your instrument, or that you’re supposed to look or act a certain way. And honestly, fuck all of that. We made this video for every girl who wants to be in a band and to show that women in rock aren’t here to fit anyone’s expectations.”
17, American Vanity’s debut record, is a cathartic, high-impact body of work that pairs emotionally charged lyricism with sharp, modern alternative rock production by Matt Squire. Across the record’s 10 tracks, the band navigates the fragile space between connection and self-preservation, unpacking the quiet pressures that society places on us. Each song is a different form of catharsis, capturing the volatility of self-awareness in real time. From the high-energy, hooky “Lifeline” to the brooding vulnerability of “Kill To Feel,” 17 is a cohesive yet emotionally varied debut that details the journey of reclaiming your identity and finding yourself again.
