‘Why can’t it be me?’

New footage from the night of Taylor Frankie Paul‘s 2023 arrest shows her ex-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen, asking the officers who came to their home during an alleged domestic violence incident to arrest him instead of her.

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives stars can be heard yelling at each other in the video obtained by TMZ as she opens the door to find a police officer at her Utah home.

After the officer asks what is going on, Paul says “nothing,” while Mortensen insists that “she is hammered.” She protests and says that he is, too, but he maintains that he’s sober.

She then moves through the house, crying and stumbling. The two parties are then separated, and an officer explains to Mortensen that he was told by Paul that she had been at a girls’ night, which he confirms and says the arguing began when he picked her up.

“She’s struggling,” Mortensen says. “She’s going through a lot. I can’t even tell you any of the stuff that just happened. I think my finger’s broken, dude.” Then he asks if there is a bump on his elbow, because she allegedly hit him with a metal chair.

Previously released video appeared to show Paul hurling a metal chair at Mortensen, and her daughter crying. (She shares daughter Indy, who’s now 8, with ex-husband Tate Paul.)

Mortensen later tells the officer that, when Paul heard he was going to a concert with friends, she wanted to accompany them. He picked her up in bad condition, and she said awful things to him, he says. Mortensen then alleges that, when they arrived at the house, he tried to leave, but she then started hitting him.

Near the end of the video, Mortensen asks the officer, “Why can’t it be me? Can I go?” and reiterates that Paul has “been through so much.”

The officer says no, because “she was the primary aggressor of everything.” He gives Mortensen the option of filling out a form, explaining that her account of the night was different. The officer warns Mortensen that the situation could have been much worse and that it’s not the kind of situation that can be resolved with a short conversation.

“That’s kind of just how it’s been, too, with her,” Mortensen replies.

TMZ posted a second video Monday night in which the officer speaks with Mortensen on the phone. He asks if Mortensen recalls Paul “peeing her pants” that night. Mortensen replies that he wouldn’t have noticed because water went everywhere in his truck when she allegedly threw something at him.

The officer then informs Mortensen that “it is very common for someone in that type of situation to pee themselves, and that’s why I felt like I needed to ask.”

Mortensen also describes the stool-throwing incident, video of which was released Thursday, March 19.

Paul was arrested for the incident and, in August, pleaded guilty in abeyance to an aggravated assault charge. She had also been charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief, and commission of domestic violence in the presence of a child, but those charges were dismissed.

The Draper City Police Department confirmed March 16 that it was investigating her for alleged domestic assault that occurred Feb. 24 and 25. Allegations had “been made in both directions,” they told PEOPLE.

In the wake of the controversy surrounding Paul, ABC chose not to air her upcoming season of The Bachelorette, days before its scheduled premiere, and The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives halted filming.
