Former police chief Dai Davies has revealed how Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor once contacted him to discuss a security matter and made a request on the call that left him stunned. Andrew has seen his reputation left in tatters over his connection with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and his appearance in the recent Epstein files.
The 66-year-old was also arrested on his birthday last month on suspicion of misconduct in public office. He was then released under investigation just hours later. Mr Davies, who was head of Scotland Yard’s Royal Protection Command between 1994 and 1998, has recalled moment that left him stunned.
As reported by iPaper, Mr Davies recalled how Andrew called him up to discuss a security matter and demanded to be put through to his superior.
Davies then explained to Andrew that he was in charge of security, so it could not be done.
Speaking to the publication, he added: “I found him boorish and ignorant”.
Comparing Andrew to his fellow royal relatives, including the now-King Charles, he added: “I found other members perfectly pleasant.
“I was treated with civility. Charles was polite. Diana, I liked her very much. When I started, [Diana] said to me, ‘You poor man – do you know what you’ve taken on?'”
Dickie Arbiter, who served as press secretary under Queen Elizabeth II between 1988 and 2000, also revealed how staff at Buckingham Palace will be feeling now that they don’t have to associate with Andrew.
He shared that the palace would be feeling relieved that it “doesn’t have to answer” for him any longer.
