After spending the last six years chasing his dream of becoming a professional swimmer, Cody Simpson has finally made his long-awaited return to music. And he’s arrived with pure, unfiltered joy.

The Australian artist has dropped two brand-new singles, ‘Baby Blue’ and ‘When It Comes to Loving You’, via BMG, and together they signal an exciting new chapter for Simpson. Co-written by Simpson and produced by Harrison Borts, the tracks are breezy, euphoric, and impossible to sit still to — the kind of songs built for golden-hour drives with the windows down and screaming the lyrics at the top of your lungs. “I intended to create something that felt like the coming of spring,” Simpson said of the recording process, and it shows. There’s a lightness to both tracks, like someone rediscovering a first love and diving in headfirst.

“In my return to music, I had been experimenting in the studio for almost a year when one day I came in extremely open hearted and open-minded, sensing something vibrant and new wanted to come through,” Simpson says. “I grabbed a guitar next to my friend and producer Harrison Borts on synths, and this is where the sound that birthed ‘Baby Blue’ and ‘When It Comes to Loving You’ was born. I hope everybody enjoys listening to them as much as I enjoyed making them. I’ve been buzzing ever since!”

‘Baby Blue’ comes with a music video directed by Antony Muse, which follows Simpson on a spontaneous, dancing journey through the streets of Los Angeles — a fitting visual metaphor for an artist finally letting loose again. A companion video for ‘When It Comes to Loving You’ is already in the works, conceived as a second act and together painting a vivid picture of Simpson’s re-entry into the world of music.

For those who need a refresher, Simpson first broke through as a teenager on YouTube before signing with Atlantic Records at just 13, eventually touring with Justin Bieber and landing on the Billboard 200. He pivoted to professional swimming in 2020, competing at the 2022 Commonwealth Games before retiring ahead of this musical return.
