ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — John Legend is bringing an intimate, stripped-down performance to western New York this spring, offering fans a closer look at the stories behind his music.
The EGOT-winning artist will take the stage at Shea’s Buffalo Theatre on April 22 as part of his “An Evening of Songs & Stories” tour. The show will feature reimagined versions of his biggest hits alongside personal reflections from his two-decade career.
Legend said the tour is designed to create a deeper connection with audiences by focusing on simplicity, often performing with just a piano.
“It’s about me telling my story, but also stripping the songs down to their essence,” he said. “It allows the audience to really connect with the lyrics and with my voice without all the extra production.”
Known for chart-topping songs like “All of Me” and “Ordinary People,” Legend said the format brings him back to the early days of his career, when he performed solo while promoting his debut album.
The tour intentionally focuses on smaller, more intimate venues, giving fans a more personal experience than large arena shows. Legend said that closeness enhances the emotional connection between performer and audience.
“We’re going to feel really close to everyone, and they’re going to feel really close to me,” he said. “We’re going to have a beautiful night together.”
In addition to his well-known hits, Legend said fans can expect a mix of deeper cuts that longtime listeners will recognize, along with stories that offer new insight into his life and career.
The 13-time Grammy Award winner is one of a select group of entertainers to achieve EGOT status, having also earned an Academy Award, Tony Award and multiple Emmy Awards. Despite his success across music, film and Broadway, Legend said he continues to seek out new creative challenges.
“Every time I sit down to write a song, it’s a new challenge,” he said. “It’s about creating something that will stand the test of time and really connect with people.”
Tickets for the Buffalo performance are available through the venue’s box office and official ticketing platforms.
