There’s never a shortage of new music from New Orleans artists, and it can be hard to keep track of it all. So each month, Gambit is throwing together a Spotify playlist to collect the latest releases by local musicians.

March saw a surge of great new releases by New Orleans artists. There were a handful of new albums and EPs, including a long-awaited album from Juvenile, and groups dropped a lot of singles this month in the build-up to projects coming soon.
Tank and the Bangas recently announced its newest album, “The Last Balloon,” and released the record’s first single, the kinetic “Move” featuring the Grammy-winning R&B artist Lucky Daye, a New Orleans native. “The Last Balloon,” which is out May 15 on Verve Forecast, will close out the band’s “Balloon” trilogy, vocalist Tarriona “Tank” Ball said on social media. “And now it’s time for something new,” she said.
Vocalist Gabrielle Cavassa continues to build momentum toward her Blue Note Records debut, “Diavola,” out on May 1. The album, Blue Note says, “explores coexistences of the angel and the devil — a dynamic central to Cavassa’s artistry and personal identity.” In March, the New Orleans-based jazz vocalist, released two singles, “Angelo” and “Diavola” to “serve as inverses of each other and capture the dichotomy at the heart of the album.” Listen to “Angelo,” a heart-wrenching song by Italian songwriter Luigi Tenco, on this month’s playlist.
It seems like New Orleans ska punk band Bad Operation can’t wait to release their second full-length album, “Everything Must Go.” The band dropped three songs this month along with music videos for each. The follow up to Bad Operation’s killer 2020 debut, “Everything Must Go” is out April 24 on Bad Time Records and Community Records.
March also saw new singles by singer-songwriter Sari Jordan ahead of their first full-length out May 15. Thomas Dollbaum announced his new album, “Birds of Paradise,” out May 22. And The Deslondes will release their latest, “Don’t Let It Die, Vol. 1,” on May 22. You’ll find their new singles in this playlist.
There also are a few new albums coming Friday, April 3, to keep an eye out for, including ‘Something to Relax With,” the new one from Nolatet, the acclaimed ensemble of bassist James Singleton, drummer Johnny Vidacovich, vibraphonist Mike Dillon and pianist Brian Haas. And guitarist Steve Masakowski is joined by his daughter, Sasha Masakowski, and son, Martin Masakowski, for the meaningful new record “Two Worlds.”
More than a decade since his last studio album, Juvenile on Friday released “Boiling Point,” which is full of collaborations with Mannie Fresh and features by B.G., Birdman and Juvenile’s son Young Juve. The single “B.B.B.,” featuring Megan Thee Stallion, has been a viral hit since its release in February.
The last few years, hip-hop artist Pell has been producing and DJing more under the moniker PellowTalk, and he dropped his PellowTalk EP. The club-worthy project includes features by Alfred Banks (who also this month released a new single), Odd the Artist, Neesha, Cait Harris and more.
And there were new albums and EPs by rock bands Oh Dang, Strange Roux, Extracts and Zita, which released its full-length “Axiom” after some delays.
