Andrew Garfield says fans will keep asking if he’ll return as Spider-Man “until I’m 90 years old”
The star reveals how he really feels about the inquiry, which he says is “probably going to follow me for the rest of my life”

Andrew Garfield knows people will never stop asking him if he’ll be in the latest Spider-Man flick — but how does he really feel about it?
In a recent interview with Heart radio for Global Player, the 42-year-old actor, who first played the beloved superhero in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man, said it’s an inquiry that will “follow” him for a very long time — until he’s 90 and “weeing into a colostomy bag,” to be exact.
In a clip from the chat published Sunday, March 29, Garfield told radio host Yasmin Evans, “I think it’s a question that’s probably going to follow me for the rest of my life is, ‘Are you secretly in the new Spider-Man film?’ ”
He continued, “Until I’m 90 years old, they’re going to be asking me, ‘Are you in the new Spider-Man Volume 512?’ and I’ll be like, ‘I’m literally weeing into a colostomy bag right now and I don’t have any—.’ “
Evans then interjected to joke that the future, nonagenarian Garfield’s response would be “So yes, I am!” To which Garfield ribbed back, “Yes, I’m in! AI.”
“But also,” he then clarified, “people can ask whatever they want. My life is very blessed.”
Garfield — who is currently promoting his latest movie, The Magic Faraway Tree — first brought the friendly neighborhood hero to life in The Amazing Spider-Man and its 2014 sequel, and most recently returned as the webbed hero Spider-Man: No Way Home. He appeared in the 2021 Marvel flick alongside fellow Spider-Men Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire.
The latest Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring 29-year-old Holland, is arriving in theaters this summer. Last year, Garfield said he is not involved in the highly anticipated feature.

“I’m gonna disappoint you. Yeah, no,” Garfield told GQ in an interview published Jan. 2, when asked about rumors he will appear in the fourth installment of the Holland-led franchise.
“But I know no one’s gonna trust anything I say from now on,” he then joked, referring to how he repeatedly denied starring in No Way Home. (The actor kept his lips sealed ahead of the film’s 2021 release, even lying to his Spider-Man’s Gwen Stacy, Emma Stone, about his viral appearance.)
In the same interview, Garfield said that he would return as Spidey if “it felt in line with my soul and was gonna be fun.”
Plus, he then joked, a big paycheck would help sweeten the deal. “Maybe I’m gonna have like five kids at some point, and I’m gonna need to start saving up for the school tuition or something,” he told GQ.

His comments to the magazine echoed a sentiment he first shared with PEOPLE in October 2024 — that it would take a “great idea, a great concept” for him to play Peter Parker again. “Something that is surprising and odd and fun, joyful. It has to be worthwhile,” he said.
“I’m so happy that they had the courage to do it. It’s such a great idea,” Garfield told PEOPLE of No Way Home at the time. “I would never have had that foresight. So I’m really just proud and happy that I get to be a part of that.
“But if there’s something that can be concocted and thought up that feels additive to the canon of that character, then for sure,” he said.
